Utica man dies in Friday crash

A 26-year-old Utica man died in a crash Friday in Livingston County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Samuel P. Vanhorn was driving a Chevrolet Lumina west on Route C in Dawn at 1:30 a.m. Friday. Vanhorn’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and began skidding in a clockwise direction. The vehicle hit a utility pole, went airborne across a creek bed and hit the opposite bank with the roof of the vehicle. The vehicle slid down the creek bank, became submerged in water and came to rest on the driver’s side in the creek bed.

Vanhorn was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:55 a.m. According to the crash report, Vanhorn was not wearing a seat belt.
