St. Joe man avoids injury after car, semi crash

ATCHISON COUNTY —Two drivers avoided injury after an accident just before 7a.m. Monday in Atchison County, Kansas.

A 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Jerry Jenkins, 59, Atchison, was southbound on the U.S.73/U.S.59 connecting link and was turning east onto U.S. 59, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

The car and a westbound 1986 Kenworth semi driven by Ricky Willis, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Atchison Fire was on the scene and had to remove a door on the Grand Marquis for the driver to be able to get out of the vehicle.

EMS examined both drivers but no one was transported. Jerry Jenkins was cited for failure to yield. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
