Monday night fire in Atchison

Atchison Fire Chief Patrick Weishaar reported that firefighters responded to a structure fire on North 14th Street, where the rear of a single-story home was on fire. All occupants were safely evacuated, and the blaze was quickly extinguished before spreading further. The fire is believed to have started on the back deck after residents put out a small fire in a BBQ smoker earlier. The fire caused damage to an exterior wall and the adjacent kitchen, with smoke damage throughout the rest of the home. Multiple agencies, including the Red Cross, provided assistance, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
