U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-MO., introduced legislation to increase funding for the University of Missouri Food and Agricultural Policy Research Center. The bill aims to extend and increase authorized funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Policy Research Centers program, including the University of Missouri’s center. If passed, the legislation would extend the program’s authorization until 2031 and raise funding to $15 million per year, up from the current $10 million. The Dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at MU expressed gratitude for Senator Schmitt’s support, highlighting the center’s role in providing data-driven analysis for farm policy and the U.S. agricultural economy. FAPRI-MU’s research focuses on trade, farm income, and biofuel policy implications to inform legislative decisions.
