Department of Conservation gets ‘good’ rating in state audit

Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick’s office gave the Department of Conservation a “good” rating, the second-highest possible score. The audit aimed to ensure accountability and transparency for taxpayers due to the department’s autonomy over fund usage. While the department is well-managed and compliant with the law, there are areas for improvement highlighted in the audit. Specifically, the Conservation Commission needs to improve public notification of open workshops, although it remains in compliance with state transparency laws.
