Buchanan County voters will decide on a proposal in April that would limit property tax increases for homeowners who live in their homes. The Homestead property tax credit would apply to all homeowners who own and reside in their homes. The proposal, different from the Senior Citizen Homestead Program, would not affect first-time home buyers and would cap property tax increases at 5% or the Consumer Price Index. If passed, the measure would be implemented in 2027, with the base year for calculating the initial credit set for 2026.
