University of Kansas postdoctoral researcher Hayley Beltz has been awarded the NASA Hubble Prize Fellowship, the first KU researcher to receive this honor. The fellowship will support her research on analyzing the magnetic fields of exoplanets for the next three years. Beltz’s work focuses on “Hot Jupiters,” gaseous exoplanets that orbit close to their host stars, reaching temperatures exceeding 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The fellowship will enable Beltz to further her research on exoplanetary magnetic fields and their impact on planetary atmospheres, contributing to our understanding of planet formation in the galaxy. This prestigious award highlights the quality of research being conducted at KU and will allow Beltz to pursue her scientific interests and mentor undergraduates.
