Hiawatha residents are expressing concerns about a proposed housing development near Bruning Park, with many questioning its impact on local taxes. The City Commission previously approved a development agreement with developer Michael Webb in a narrow vote. Commissioner Laura Tollefson expressed regret over the agreement, citing a grant deadline issue. The city would cover nearly $866,000 in public infrastructure costs under the agreement. Residents argue that funds should be allocated to affordable housing initiatives instead of partnering with an out-of-town developer.
