Iowa graduation rate rises above pre-pandemic levels

Iowa’s high school graduation rate has reached a five-year high, with 88.8% of students in the Class of 2025 graduating within four years. The increase represents nearly 1,000 more students earning diplomas compared to the previous class, with improvements seen among student groups such as those with disabilities, low-income students, and students experiencing homelessness. However, gaps persist, with female students graduating at higher rates than males and a slight dip in graduation rates for English learners. Iowa’s graduation rate surpasses that of neighboring states but lags behind others like Wisconsin and Missouri, while dropout rates have decreased to 2.3% during the last school year.
