Doniphan County officials discussed two courthouse projects during a recent meeting. The Freedom Rock Foundation presented plans to install a granite monument in the courthouse courtyard to honor local veterans, with painting scheduled for late September 2026. Commissioners toured potential locations but delayed a final decision pending more installation details. Additionally, the courthouse steps and handrails project, approved in 2024, faced delays, with new handrails recently installed but not matching the existing design. The contractor agreed to redo the railing at no extra cost. Concerns were also raised about the snow-melting system in the courthouse steps, which has now been repaired, is fully operational, and has an extended warranty through 2032.
