An Elwood man has pleaded no contest to an amended child sex-related charge in Doniphan County District Court. John Umphress entered the plea to aggravated indecent solicitation of a child, originally charged with aggravated indecent liberties with a child. The arrest followed an investigation by the Elwood Police Department in November 2024, stemming from an alleged incident in May 2024 involving a child under 14. Sentencing for Umphress is scheduled for June 3rd.
