The Hiawatha city commission voted against allowing fireworks within the city limits on July 3rd and 4th this year, with a 2 to 3 vote. Mayor Becky Shamburg and Commissioners Laura Tollefson and Dave Middendorf opposed the motion, citing concerns about complaints, impact on pets and veterans, and the availability of fireworks at City Lake. Despite the ban on fireworks in the city, sales will still be permitted within Hiawatha.
