The Brown County Sheriff’s Office received $4,000 in equipment from the Kansas Department of Transportation for participating in the STEP program, which provides overtime funding and equipment for traffic enforcement efforts. The Sheriff’s Office received traffic measuring wheels, collapsible traffic cones, preliminary breath testers, and a Guardian Angel shoulder light for its participation. Sheriff John Merchant expressed appreciation for the partnership with KDOT and the program’s benefits in stretching their budget and benefiting local taxpayers.
