St. Joseph firefighters responded to a structure fire late Monday night at Wesley Senior Towers in Downtown St. Joseph.
Fire investigator with the St. Joseph Fire Department, Casey Crockett, says firefighters were called around 11:00 p.m. to a report of a smoke alarm. An apartment on the 11th floor was on fire.
Smoke and heat were contained to the unit. Fire crews located a person inside the apartment and removed them from the residence. A Facebook post from the St. Joseph Fire Department says the person was pronounced deceased on scene, but no further information is available at this time.
The fire was quickly brought under control, with no extension to other units.
The fire is under investigation.
