Sports betting protections in Missouri and Kansas are not so good

Kansas and Missouri received failing grades in a recent report on online sports gambling protections, ranking among the worst states in the country. The states lack addiction and bankruptcy prevention measures, such as setting loss limits and restricting advertising. The nonprofit Center for Addiction Science, Policy, and Research highlighted the dangers of online betting apps, which can lead to addictive behavior and increased rates of suicide. Both states allow 24/7 access to sports betting apps without adequate safeguards, prompting calls for policy changes to reduce harm. Despite having problem gambling hotlines and self-exclusion lists, the report emphasized the need for stronger protections and funding for problem gambling treatment programs.
