Police Captain Brian Guilliams has been appointed as the interim Chief of Police in Hiawatha, following the retirement of Chief Mickey Gruber. The Hiawatha City Commission voted unanimously to appoint Guilliams to the position. Guilliams will serve as interim chief until a permanent police chief is selected. Chief Gruber retired after more than 30 years in law enforcement, having served as Hiawatha’s Chief of Police since May 2022.
