The 16th annual northwest Missouri Master Gardners Plant Sale will be the largest plant sale the group has held, starting tomorrow and on Saturday at the Missouri Extension Office.
Co-chairperson for the event Dee Musser says the plant sale will have 11,000 plants for sale, providing almost anything and everything for people to grow.
“They’re anything from tomatoes and peppers and eggplant, and tons of herbs, but milkweed, we have so many varieties of milkweed, and they’re so important to feed the monarchs as they pass through on their way migrating,” Musser says. “I think we have nine varieties of milkweed, so you can plant a wonderful butterfly garden in your yard.”
Musser says when it comes to the vegetables, you’ll be able to find, there will be several varieties of those as well.
“We have people who plant, like me I will plant about 75 tomatoes in my garden, and about 25 or so peppers, and so we have probably 80 varieties of tomatoes, probably 25 to 30 varieties of peppers,” Musser explains. “We have sweet peppers, hot peppers, we have determinant tomatoes, indeterminant tomatoes, we have the cherry tomatoes, we have them.”
On top of getting your plants, the Master Gardeners will also be on hand to provide tips for how to care for plants, but also to help people find what plant suits them best.
The plant sale runs tomorrow from 9 to 6pm and on Saturday from 9 to 4pm at the Missouri Extension Office. All plants not sold will be donated to agencies around the community with gardens, to help enhance the love of gardening.
