Gov. Kim Reynolds introduces ‘farm to faucet’ water quality package

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds unveiled a water quality funding package that includes shifting existing funds and adding additional resources to enhance water quality infrastructure in the state. The $319 million investment over 12 years, outlined in an amendment to the agriculture and natural resources budget, aims to address urgent needs and boost effective programs. The proposal reallocates funding from the Water Quality Financing Program to support initiatives like the Wastewater and Drinking Water Treatment Financial Assistance program and create a Greater Des Moines Watershed Program. While Democrats expressed concerns about the adequacy of the investment, Republicans emphasized the importance of ongoing water quality monitoring and infrastructure upgrades to safeguard Iowa’s water resources. The plan also includes a one-time revolving loan fund and investments in nitrate removal capacity to address water quality challenges in the state.
