The Brown County Commission is working on a new patriotic banner project to honor local veterans by placing banners on lamp posts around the courthouse square. Commissioner Richard Tesoriero is leading the effort, with each banner costing $150 and requiring $3,200 for mounting brackets. The city of Hiawatha Kansas will assist with installation, and local scouting groups will also be involved. The goal is to have at least two banners installed by Memorial Day weekend, inspired by a similar program in Jackson County.
